Onion Chutney is a mildly spicy and slightly sweet chutney made with sautéed onions, garlic, and tamarind. It is a perfect side dish for idli, dosa, or even plain rice.

Onion Chutney

Ingredients

  • 2 onions (sliced)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • ½ teaspoon tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • Salt to taste

For Tempering

  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 5-6 curry leaves

Step-by-Step Cooking Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Ingredients

  1. Heat 1 teaspoon oil and sauté onions, garlic, and red chilies until onions turn golden.

Step 2: Blend the Chutney

  1. Blend the mixture with tamarind paste and salt.

Step 3: Temper & Serve

  1. Heat oil, add mustard seeds and curry leaves, pour over the chutney.
  2. Serve with idli or dosa.
