Ingredients

  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 2 tablespoons roasted chana dal
  • 2 green chilies
  • ½ inch ginger (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ cup water (adjust as needed)

For Tempering

  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 dried red chili
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • 1 pinch asafoetida (hing)

Step-by-Step Cooking Instructions

Step 1: Blend the Chutney

  1. In a blender, add grated coconut, roasted chana dal, green chilies, ginger, salt, and water.
  2. Blend until smooth. Adjust water if needed.

Step 2: Prepare the Tempering

  1. Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a small pan.
  2. Add mustard seeds, let them splutter.
  3. Add red chili, curry leaves, and asafoetida, sauté for a few seconds.

Step 3: Combine & Serve

  1. Pour the tempering over the chutney and mix well.
  2. Serve fresh with idli, dosa, or vada.
